Letters to the Editor

I have to give at least six months notice and provide my principal with a replacement. BB

Ed: The requirement or expectation that you provide six months notice and replace yourself is not legitimate. It would be courteous to replace yourself, but it is the employer’s responsibility to do so, not yours. One month’s notice is normal, not six. Do not allow yourself to be trapped by this demand—unless you want to be, of course. I am not saying walk out, but also, do not buy the employer’s information, as a) it is not true, and b) it may seem to look after his interests, but it does not look after your interests, too, so it is not a balanced, ethical decision, and c) it violates human rights.
