.

An interesting piece on the clothing styles of Jeeves and Wooster.

The story of an out-of-work, senior butler who, after 700 rejections, handed out his resume on a railway platform and was hired to pass on his “professionalism and wealth of knowledge” to hundreds of younger staff working in three restaurant chains;

It seems butlers are inspiring all sorts of professions and activities.

  • There is the Baklava Butler who serves, you guessed it;
  • A Boot Butler for storing boots;
  • A Sanitizing Butler, courtesy of the Covid-19 scare;
  • A Butler Waiter, because all butlers are really waiters and all waiters are really butlers;
  • A butler robot from Toyota that hangs from the ceiling (like a monkey);
  • What we used to call “dustman” in England and “trash collector” in the US, and was politically corrected later to “Sanitary Engineer,” has inevitably been elevated now to “Trash Butler.”

Lastly, a 4-part series on The Savoy in London has just concluded, with the expected criticisms from media and social media (of the messy storeroom and the use of champagne from Aldi’s, a low-end grocery store), but otherwise, a favourable impression was created of the world of the butler as presented by the Head Butler, Mr. Sean Davoren.

The Institute is dedicated to raising service standards by broadly disseminating the mindset and superior service expertise of that time-honored, quintessential service provider, the British Butler, updated with modern people skills, and adapted to the needs of modern employers and guests in staffed homes, luxury hotels, resorts, spas, retirement communities, jets, yachts & cruise ships around the world.
